About

A refund you are entitled to is worth nothing if you never notice

Some retailers publish rules that let you claim the difference when an eligible price falls inside their window. Those rules already exist. What does not exist is anything that tells you the moment applies to you.

Why it exists

The problem we started from

A shopper buys at the price of the day, which is the correct decision at the time. Two weeks later the price moves. No email arrives. The retailer’s window is counted in days and nobody wrote the date down. By the time anyone looks, the published route has closed.

Re-checking every purchase manually, every day, until a deadline you did not record, is not something people do. That gap — between a rule that exists and a person who never finds out it applies — is the whole reason this product exists.

What we are building

Software that identifies the exact item you bought, watches for comparable price movement on it, and connects that movement to the retailer’s own published rules while there is still time to act.

Price tracking is the engine. Purchase protection is the product. The distinction matters: a tracker only has to notice that a number changed, whereas this has to be right about which item changed, who is selling it, and whether the retailer’s route is still open.

The gap

A rule you qualify for, and no way to know the day it applies

Nothing in this picture is unusual. A price moved after a purchase, which prices do, and a published window opened and closed around it. The only unusual part is that it passed unnoticed.

One purchase, thirty days

Illustrative example

C$549 paid C$469 now
Day 0You buy at the price of the day. Day 12The price moves. No email arrives. Day 30The published window closes.

The eighteen days in between are the whole problem. That stretch is the only time a claim is possible, and nothing marks its start or its end. By the time anyone thinks to look, this is just a purchase that went fine.

Figures are illustrative and do not describe any specific retailer, product or outcome. Window lengths, eligibility and evidence requirements are set by each retailer and change.

How we decide

The principles we build against

This product touches money you have already spent. The failure that matters is not missing a price drop — it is confidently reporting one that does not survive contact with the retailer.

Identity before price

A comparison starts from the retailer’s own product identifier, never from a similar-looking title. A lower number attached to a different item is not a finding.

Policy-aware evidence

Every policy claim links the retailer’s own current page and carries the date it was last checked. Where the official wording is incomplete, we say so instead of filling the gap.

Fail closed when uncertain

If seller, condition, currency or price evidence is ambiguous, the observation is discarded. Silence is a better product than a confident guess.

The retailer decides

We can help you notice and document a change. Whether a request qualifies is the retailer’s decision, every time, and we cannot influence it.

You stay in control

No retailer account access, no acting on your behalf, and a beta reservation you can have refunded at any time before monitoring begins.

Where we stand

Independence

DropRefund is an independent consumer service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any retailer, and no retailer reviews or approves what we publish. We do not accept payment to describe a policy more favourably, and we earn no commission on the retailer links in our guides — those exist so you can check the source yourself.

Where the product actually is

Automatic price monitoring is not open to new customers. We are evaluating authorised retailer and data-provider integrations before opening it. Beta reservations are open: a reservation holds your place, does not start monitoring, and is fully refundable at any time before monitoring begins.

We would rather publish the state of the build than imply a service that is not running. If that reads as cautious, it is the same caution that decides what we are willing to tell you about a price.

Be first in line when monitoring opens

A beta reservation holds your place. It does not start monitoring, it does not watch anything yet, and it is fully refundable at any time before monitoring begins.
