What DropRefund would actually do for your purchase

You have already paid. The question is no longer “when should I buy?” but whether a comparable price moved while you may still have a remedy with the retailer. Here is every step that has to hold for that to be worth telling you about.

The five stages

Each one can fail. A system that hides those failures is worse than no system, because after you have paid a false alert costs you a wasted trip to the retailer.

1

You show us what you bought

The retailer’s own product link, the price you paid and the purchase date. That is enough to anchor everything that follows.

2

The exact product is identified

From the retailer’s own product identifier in the link — not from a similar-looking title. This is the step that decides whether anything later is trustworthy.

Why from the URL? A product name is ambiguous; a retailer identifier is not. Starting from the identifier means the comparison is anchored before any price is looked at.

3

Comparable prices are observed

The retailer’s price for that same identifier is observed through the relevant window, from an approved structured source. Seller, condition, market and currency all have to line up.

4

The change is put in policy context

A lower price only matters while the retailer’s published route is still open. The observation is measured against that deadline, not just against what you paid.

5

You get told, with the evidence

What moved, by how much, which identifier it matched, and how long the window has left — so you can decide whether to ask the retailer.

Why the exact item matters more than the price

Two listings can share a brand, a title and a photo and still be different products. This is where post-purchase claims quietly fall apart.

Same item — keep checking

Identifiers match, so the observation is about your item and can continue through the remaining checks. A matching identifier alone does not make a claim eligible.

Different item — discard

Observed offerSKU 19895029

Pricelower

A different storage tier, a marketplace seller, a refurbished unit or last year’s model. Discarded rather than turned into a false alert.

Fail closed

If the seller, condition, currency or price evidence is ambiguous, the observation is thrown away. “We cannot tell” is reported as “we cannot tell” — never smoothed into a maybe.

There are two clocks, not one

A price can move at any time. The retailer’s route closes on a fixed date. Only the overlap is useful.

Windows differ by retailer, by membership status and sometimes by product category. Exclusions apply, and the published rules can change.

Best Buy Canada, as published today

  • 30 days under the current Low Price Guarantee, extended to 60 days for My Best Buy account holders.
  • If Best Buy’s own price falls after purchase, its policy describes presenting the original receipt within the window and requesting the difference.
  • Marketplace items are excluded, along with special events and restricted promotions.

Best Buy makes the final eligibility decision. DropRefund is not affiliated with Best Buy.

Where the line sits

It is worth being precise about which part is software and which part is the retailer’s decision.

What DropRefund would do

  • Identify the exact product you bought
  • Observe comparable prices for that item
  • Track the deadline against the retailer’s published rules
  • Hand you the evidence to make the request

What it would never do

  • Decide whether you are eligible
  • Contact the retailer on your behalf
  • Ask for your retailer account login
  • Promise that a refund will be approved

The retailer makes the final decision on any price adjustment, every time. Nothing here changes that, and no observed price change is a guarantee of anything.

What you can actually do today

Stages 3 to 5 are not open to new customers. We would rather show you the state of the build than imply a service that is not running.

A beta reservation holds your place in line. It does not start monitoring, it does not watch a product, and it is fully refundable at any time before monitoring begins. If we have not invited you to activate within 14 days, we refund you without you having to ask.
